Description
The Pasaje Gutierrez is a covered shopping arcade in the city of Valladolid, Spain. This type of galleries emerged in Paris as a consequence of the industrial revolution of the 19th century.
It was built at the request of Eusebio Gutiérrez, who commissioned the architect Jerónimo Ortiz de Urbina in 1886. It is an example of Beaux-Art architecture in which the classical orders are combined with the new technologies of the era, such as the iron roof and glass tiles and gaslighting that can be seen in the arms of the luminous globes, which are still the originals.
In Spain, the Gutiérrez Passage, together with the Lodares Passage in Albacete and the Zaragoza Cyclone Passage, are the only 3 remaining examples of this type of galleries.
