Description
The monastery was built to thank the Virgin Mary for the Portuguese victory over the Castilians in the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, It took over a century to build, and a part is unfinished.
Like the Founders' Chapel. The founders never saw their chapel over. Their sarcophagi are found here but, they say, there are no bodies inside.
