Artist's Description
The Portuguese abbey of Alcobaca was founded in 1153 but the kitchen dates from 1752. The water basin is located at one end of the monastery kitchens and would be used to keep fresh fish for the meals.
Equally enormous is the fireplace, halfway in between is located the preparation table, equally in marble, which is inexplicably undersized.
It seems that in the 18th century its use was banned following mysterious deaths by drowning inside the convent.
