Description
This corner of the refectory in the Monastery of Alcobaca, in Portugal, is where the pulpit is located. The monks would read from the Holy Scriptures during the meals.
The pulpit has no barriers or protections, it is accessed only through an arched staircase, two documented passages no longer exist.
They were walled up following the death of a monk from the pulpit in the Middle Ages.
