The Heraldic Hall in the National Palace of Sintra (Portugal) is the highest expression of the monarchical ideal of King Manuel I (1469-1521). This is only the Nord-est corner but where, by placing his coat of arms at the top of the room's dome, Manuel I project himself as the top center of the hierarchical society. His power depended on the support of the nobility and in this hall are represented the coats of arms of the 72 most important families.
