After cruising through the deserted main roads of the city, Jez left her car and strolled into the narrow alleyways of Chinatown. Normally bustling with shady figures, the area felt eerily empty at this late hour. Though the shops were open and the neon signs flickered, a sense of stillness hung in the air, as if life had been tainted.
It was then that Jez spotted the pigeons.
They wandered about as they always did, a small sign of resilience in the silence. Their presence reassured her that life hadn't been completely snuffed out by some unseen force, though she couldn’t quite grasp why.
